Job Title: Financial Accountant 

Reporting to: Financial Controller 

 

Our client is one of the most advanced healthcare groups in Europe, with over 2,000 consultants, nurses and healthcare professionals. They provide 24-hour, world-class acute care services, including a comprehensive cancer centre, cardiology,  emergency department, orthopaedics, women’s and men’s health, urology, vascular surgery, ENT, plastic surgery,  neurology, health screening and general surgery.  

This is an exciting time in the development of the healthcare group. They have received full planning permission to develop their existing premises. This will increase their beds capacity and their operating theatres. They will also be more than doubling  the size of their Emergency Department and expanding their Oncology centre. They expect this work to commence before the  end of 2024. 

The culture of the company is one of respect across all levels of the organisation. They have flexible working arrangements and are operating a hybrid working model in the finance team. 

 

About the team: 

The finance team plays a key role in the organisation and is responsible for all reporting to the Board and Senior  Management.

This role will report into the Financial Controller and the team breakdown is as follows: 

  • Financial Controller
  • Financial Reporting – 6 Qualified Accountants, 1 Intern, 1 Cashier and 4 in Accounts Payable, Payroll – 1 Team Lead and 2 Payroll Specialists, Revenue Audit Specialist (newly created role) 

 

The Role: 

They are seeking a qualified Accountant to join the Finance team. This is a very well-run Finance team with a very strong Financial Controller in position.

As a Financial Accountant in this team, you will play a key role in strategic planning, budgeting, financial analysis and ensure compliance with regulatory standards.

The  ideal candidate will have a strong background in finance and exceptional leadership skills to drive financial performance and accountability throughout the organisation. 

 

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Financial Planning and Analysis:
  • Implement financial strategies to support the hospital’s long-term goals.
  • Assist with the preparation of the annual budgets, forecasting and financial reports for management review.
  • Conduct variance analysis and provide insights to optimise financial performance.
  • Financial Management: 
  • Review accounting operations, including accounts payable, financial reporting and payroll.
  • Ensure timely and accurate financial reporting in accordance with accounting standards, revenue and regulatory requirements. 
  • Monitor cash flow, liquidity, and investments to maintain financial stability.
  • Compliance and Risk Management: 
  • Implement internal controls and procedures to mitigate financial risks. 
  • Coordinate external audits and regulatory inspections. 
  • Strategic Planning: 
  • Collaborate within the finance team to develop financial strategies aligned with organisational objectives.
  • Provide financial analysis and insights to support expansions and cost-saving initiatives. 
  • Team Leadership and Development: 
  • Lead and mentor other members of the the finance team, fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement. 
  • Provide guidance and professional development opportunities to enhance staff competencies and performance. 

 

Required Skills and Qualifications: 

  • Bachelors’ degree in Finance, Accounting or related field. 
  • Qualified Accountant – ACA, ACCA, CIMA.
  • Minimum of 2 years progressive experience in finance, healthcare experience would be an advantage.
  • Proven leadership abilities with the capacity to inspire and motivate cross-functional teams.
  • Excellent analytical skills with the ability to translate financial data into actionable insights.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to interact effectively with stakeholders at all  levels.
